We have only just heard about Blind Creek naturist beach on Hutchinson Island, which is situated between Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach on Florida’s Treasure Coast. Apparently, casual nude use was for a long time common at the remote and primitive location, but it has now been recognized as clothing-optional by local law enforcement as lawful. It attracts a family-friendly crowd and is supported by the Treasure Coast Naturist Group.

Oklahoma Naturist Inn and Winery is an adults-only nudist ‘all inclusive’ property, located in southeastern Oklahoma, between Ada and McAlester off Highway 75. With just two guest bedrooms and a 4-acre vineyard to explore, it is never going to be overcrowded. A pool, hydrotherapy spa and sheltered sunbathing terrace provide plenty of opportunities for au natural chilling.

Sunnier Pines Nudist Club opened its doors for the first time a couple of years ago. Located at Jay, in the rolling hills of north-west Florida, in Santa Rosa county, a short drive from Pensacola. The well-developed and equipped site is family-friendly and affiliated to the two leading organisations in the country: The Naturist Society (TNS) and The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR).

An interesting fledgling venture has recently arrived on the scene in the US to provide a network of nudist-friendly Bed and Breakfast style properties for vacationers. The Clothing Optional Home Network is a group of homes offering a private, clothing-optional / nudist experience.  Some host homes are in suburban areas while other locations are in rural or mountain sites.  But all welcome guests to enjoy their accommodation as nature intended . . . clothes free!

A well-established 32-room motel in Cocoa Beach, Florida, changed its status to become clothes-optional from May 2012. Fawlty Towers Resort is located 200 yards from the beach, 20 minutes’ drive from Kennedy Space Centre and 45 minutes’ from Orlando airport. A tropical garden surrounds the pool; and there’s an authentic “Tiki Bar” featuring European Beers and Ciders. Day passes are available for non-residents.

A large property for holiday exchange in Merrimack, New Hampshire – 60km from Boston – set in extensive private grounds and backing onto 300 acres of conservation land. According to the owners, the total privacy lends itself to skinny-dipping in the swimming pool and sunbathing as nature intended.

Advertised on the Naturist Life website – ‘Why not try a holiday in the Florida sun at a villa which is suitable for naturists – the pool and patio are completely screened, unlike most villas in the area that are open to view. The Disney theme parks are nearby (4 miles), as are many other attractions.’ The comfortable property has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, together with cable TV and broadband internet.

According to Don and Pat, who operate the Chaparral Resort in Texas, “If you are a free spirit you will enjoy what awaits you – we offer a clothing optional stay in a totally private and secluded setting, or just a quiet get away – the choice is yours”. Located 34 miles south-west of Fort Worth, and half way between historic Granbury and Weatherford, the secluded suites with covered patios offer comfortable accommodation and an extensive choice of leisure facilities.

Gulf Coast Resort is in Hudson, Florida, approximately 30 miles north of Tampa, and about five miles from the coast on the Gulf of Mexico. Set in 40 acres of pines and oaks, the naturist park has a heated pool and spa surrounded by extensive sunbathing lawns.Tennis, petanque, horsehoes, cornhole and shuffleboard are also on offer. Camping space available (with hook-ups for RVs) and day visitors are welcome.

Bare Necessities Tour and Travel, based in Austin Texas,  have been successfully organising luxury naturist cruises for more than 20 years. Last week the company announced its latest venture – a record-breaking voyage for 3,000 nudists, taking place in February 2013, on board the ‘Carnival Freedom’. Sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the eight-day itinerary will take in Cozumel, Mexico, Lima in Costa Rica and Colon in Panama, with side tours to the famous canal available. Pine Tree at Crownsville centers around a grassy common area with pool, courts for tennis, paddleball, and volleyball, and lawns for sunbathing. The clubhouse offers a dance floor, indoor pool, hot tub, and saunas and a shady terrace for get-togethers. There are facilities for overnight campers and RV owners, including toilets and outdoor showers. Pine Tree is six miles from Annapolis and less than an hour’s drive from both Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.

High in the sky, a 2-bedroomed apartment on the 20th floor overlooking the famous Haulover naturist beach is available to rent in Miami. Situated in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, the uninterrupted ocean views provide an impressive vista. Arlen House East is a full-service accessible and secure building with 24-hour door staff and a valet service. The development enjoys a heated pool, an in-ground jacuzzi, a sauna, a gym and tennis courts in the private landscaped gardens, next to an intercoastal lagoon. A private, covered parking spot comes with the apartment.

Renowned Californian naturist resort, Desert Shadows Inn, has recently changed ownership and been re-named Desert Sun Resort. The new owners plan to upgrade the family-friendly holiday destination during the coming months. (The resort is described on page 56 of The World’s Best Nude Beaches)

The new upscale Sea Mountain Resort at Desert Springs, near Palm Springs, California offers a hedonistic-style spa experience where clothes are not required. Accommodation is available and day-visitors are welcome. The retreat is under two hours drive from Los Angeles.

Doctors of Chiropractic Jeri Rose and Michael Ravenswing offer naturist-friendly vacation accommodation for up to 6 people at their property on Big Island. Located half an hour from the ancient town of Hilo and set in two and a half acres on a cliff-top overlooking the ocean, Jeri and Michael’s focus is on a healthy lifestyle. They can arrange massage, chiropractic care, yoga sessions, or even an authentic Luau with fire dancers! 

The 4-star Sagamore Hotel on Collins Avenue, Miami Beach – only a few minutes’ drive from world-famous Haulover nude beach -allows clothing-optional sunbathing on the terraced lawn in the grounds of the property. October 2007 saw American photographer, Spencer Tunick shooting one of his now famous nude installations at the hotel (6 pics to view).

A 3-bedroomed rental home available for vacations in south Florida with a good sized private rear yard and a secluded pool. There’s a 75-foot lakeside frontage and the refurbished property located three miles from the beach is described as naturist-friendly. A computer and internet connection is provided.

Kalani, is an educational non-profit retreat that celebrates nature, culture and wellness on Hawaii Island. Bordered by tropical jungle and the Pacific Ocean, where Kehena clothes-optional beach is often frequented by dolphins (World’s Best Nude Beaches page 72). Skinny-dipping is also on offer in the Olympic pool at the centre after 3pm (adults only after 7pm).

Nearby Kahena Beach Bungalows provide handy alternative (textile) accommodation for the nude beach.

Naturists Lynn and Louise from Shropshire, UK provide luxury holiday accommodation at their 4-bedroomed villa close to the Disney theme parks in Florida. The owners advise their Comfort Landings villa has ‘a south-facing garden, patio & pool offering absolute privacy – so much so that clothing is optional in these areas’. They add, ‘you can get an enviable all-over Florida tan without any lines’.
